Who are we?
Now there's a two-part question if there ever was one! Allow us to break it down for you...
The Practice
AS Accounting itself is a small accountancy practice, serving the needs of individuals, business proprietors, clubs, and associations.
Part and parcel of operating a business is being part of a community, and we are no different. We support a number of school-based work experience programs and we are also a proud supporter of community radio station 4ZZZ.
The People
The whole may well be greater than the sum of its parts - but the parts are still important!
At AS Accounting, the "parts" are the people that make up the practice. The founding members of the firm are Practice Principal Anthony Rutherford and Bookkeeper Extraordinaire Suzanne Dark (now the “AS” makes sense, doesn’t it?). Anthony and Suzanne have both been active in the accounting profession for well over 25 years.
They have traveled quite different professional roads over those 25-odd years, and this provides AS Accounting with a wide skills set to apply to the taxation and accountancy needs of our clients.
Granted, we may not boast a cast of thousands, but we certainly have the expertise to look after your accounting and taxation needs!
Suzanne Dark
Suzanne is our in-house computerised accounting and bookkeeping expert. If you have a query regarding a computerised accounting package, Suzanne will sort it out for you. She is also the BAS expert of the practice, and is more than adept at navigating through the maze that is our current taxation system.
Suzanne loves to help clients in coping with all manner of compliance issues – from wages and superannuation matters through general reporting, to financial statement and tax return preparation.
Suzanne is a Fellow of the Institute of Public Accountants and a Registered BAS Agent.
Anthony Rutherford
Anthony likes to think of himself as a 'hardened accountant', but this is just ridiculous.
Anthony’s career in public practice accounting has taken him across the Pacific Ocean and back again. After commencing his career on Brisbane’s south side, Anthony enjoyed a stint as Accounting and Audit Manager with a multi-national firm in Vanuatu in the late 90’s. He returned to his home town of Brisbane as manager of a city based practice in 2001, and then established AS Accounting with Suzanne in 2009.
With clients that range from individuals or small local sole traders all the way up to larger national operators and international enterprises, Anthony has always adopted the mantra of “plain English and approachability”. Having the qualifications, knowledge, and experience to guide clients in the areas of taxation and accountancy is one thing, but being able to communicate this in a manner that allows implementation is every bit as important.
Anthony is a Fellow of the Institute of Public Accountants, and a Registered Tax Agent. He is also a foundation member of the Wittonga Park Touch Football Club, but this rarely comes up in general practice matters.
